The historic façade of the Press-Telegram building will be preserved and complimented by modern interior features, including the creation of a grand lobby floor, 14-foot vault ceilings and beautiful sustainable bamboo floors. The Press-Telegram Lofts is expected to receive the prestigious LEED silver certification for designing the building with Green Building techniques and using renewable materials.

 

KMA team includes Brian Hajjar, Jim Belmont, Stephanie Bien, Don Blair, Jay Guerrero, Heather Mertes and Robb Walker. The structural engineer is Glotman Simpson, the historic preservation architect is Heritage Architecture and the general contractor is Sundt Construction, Inc. Wimmer Yamada and Caughey will serve as the landscape architects.

 

The Press-Telegram building was originally built in 1924 and designed by architect W. Horace Austin, who also designed several other Long Beach landmarks, including the Long Beach Airport terminal, the downtown Farmers & Merchants Bank and the Poly High School auditorium.
